The maverick Telangana Rashtra Samithi president K Chandrasekhar Rao did an about-turn on Tuesday on his much-publicized fast-unto-death, creating a lot of confusion in Andhra Pradesh political circles.
Barely a few hours after happily accepting fruit juice given by the doctors, wiping his mouth with a towel and making an announcement that he was withdrawing his fast to prevent a violent agitation, the TRS president changed his mind, apparently on seeing the wild reaction from students, Telangana activists and general public.
He declared that he was still continuing the hunger strike demanding creation of separate Telangana state. “It was a conspiracy by the government to show our leader in poor light. There is no question of calling off the fast. KCR will continue the fast, come what may,” the TRS ideologue Prof Jayashankar said.
