If reservations stays; 25% upper caste can enjoy 50% of resources.
If reservation system goes away due to uplifting of backward classes; 25% of upper caste will have to satisfy themselves with only 25% of resources.

Brother your assumption is flawed if someone come under reservation category they get their guaranteed reservation seat (on their merit basis in that class) if reservation % is fulfilled as per rule then their application goes to open category. That means 50% resources is for everyone in India.
This was happened few years back to get admission in one of top Medical school after scoring more than 92% was not able to get to desired top medical school but one of his friend who had just scored 58% was able to get in top notch medical school. Now this remind me similar situation what was happened 50 years before. Now making matter worst student who had got 92% was belonging to very middle class or you can say poor family but his friend was belonging to class one gazetted officer�s family (I would classify them upper middle class).
I think reservation was required in past to up-lift backward class and give them justice in system but now situation is change drastically we see people from all class is on same page .if someone wants to argue on this that is fine. In real sense if we need reservation then it should be on economics basis everyone should file taxes and they should get reservation accordingly with merits .In this way government will get more revenue and on the whole we will have fair justice to everyone (all cast )and this will provide better visibility what is happening to normal families. Now some will debate how we can avoid fraud for reporting low income then hey that is what government should be doing, proving infrastructure and enforcing rule of law other than that government has no business in dictating which cast is upper cast or lower cast.
Now real question pose by the other users here are we better-off here or back home? I think we always indulge in material benefits but there are other aspect of life you cannot put face value on it .What matter is the most are you Happy? What is your ultimate goal of life? What is the most important thing you want to have in your life? What is the most irritating thing you cannot overlook or make you uncomfortable? On top of all these key questions what are tools /resources available to you to address all these likes dislikes. So let us say if you are shooting for quality life then define what must have for that life and to get those you may have to bite bullet and compromise on some of those. If you can find middle ground some where there then we call those people happy people or successful people. So life is about making right choice all the time as per your own situations. When we are in this fine-tuning process we can always use help from our resources, friends, relative, culture, God, Money and our own intellectual.

GC Status:
I am seeing that reedandbamboo is considering for EB2 only. We have to include EB3 too for law-suit. I beleive that we will have more than 1000 people if we inlcude all categories.
I will give 200$( 100$ for me and 100 $ for my wife)
Ofcourse all categories are included...EB2/EB3, I/C/ROW...anyone who is unhappy with USCIS random processing and retrogression of the dates is welcome to join the fight.

We are not collectiong money yet..just a pledge. As soon as we hit the required # of pledges, then we start the money collection. I do not understand why people spend their energy in coming up with some lame ideas. Just because you suffer does not mean that your fellows have to suffer, what is the point of being a sane individual with that kind of thought process.
There are people who come here on all kinds of visas F1, H1, L1 and like this country and stay back and need a green card for convenience. Students who came here want priority over people who came on H1B. It makes sense from their point of view.
Similarly people on H1B who got stuck in several stages and had to change the company have their own point of view.

Here is my case - I have a very hectic work schedule -so by the time I go home I forget to write and send a check. If I could do paypal then would be no problem as I can do from any where - work - from phone - anywhere.
Just a thought.. I have been planning to send $50 or so but kept on forgetting. Don't get me wrong but telling the truth here.

Either the US Consulate got the EB-3 India date wrong or there was a typo in the Oct Visa Bulletin. I wish/hope there was a typo in the bulletin and Mumbai consulate got it right....Cut Off Dates- Consulate General of the United States Mumbai, India (http://mumbai.usconsulate.gov/cut_off_dates.html)..But it seems they might have copied the date from China column of the visa bulletin...

It is frustrating to see that there is a campaign going on to allow for 485 filing even when pd is current and another thread running that says another fiasco would be bad .... everybody talks/writes/feels only as "what benefits them is good, everything else is not worthwhile or bad"

thanks indigokiwi. The deadline is end of March, but we would like a large amount of this raised much earlier, since it involves making reservations, booking appointments, for Eg. with the lobbyist.

Retaining your PD, using a new I-140, is not the same as Labor substitution. There are several members who have successfully ported their PD, and may be able to advise you better.

My husband received CPO mail on 08/04, welcome mail on 08/05, soft LUD on 08/06 and approval notice sent mail on 08/09 but dated 08/08 in USCIS status. Hoping to have the GC in hand next week.

Average worldwide processing time for employment based green card applications is 1.43 years (Priority Date to GC approval).
In simple words, it takes 5.5 years to wrap up the 1 year GC demand for Indian applicants presuming there is no overflow from any other country GC visa quota.

No body cares about you. Then why do you care about other categories. Don't be a looser. Take care of your problem first.

Well, I kind of expected a response to my kind of personal remark in the earlier part of the post than what I wrote later in the message... never mind, that's the human mind.
Don't know about you but I for sure don't rely on just conversing with NGO's or reading news about "atrocities", but actually have involved myself in traveling, teaching and helping institute schools in tribal areas of Jharkhand (Ghatsila-Singhbum), where education had never even reached. The sparkle in their eyes, hospitality and values beats what we find urbanized and modernized world (had the same experience when I visited central Cambodia last month). I also see that casteism is not the same all over in India (a lot less in the west (when I was in Nanded district in Maharashtra) than the north and parts of south) and that it is rapidly changing (compare the caste discrimination 70 years ago with that today, even my active 85 year grandma who has traveled a lot in India, couldn't resist expressing her positive wonderment). The caste discrimination is severe no doubt in certain parts, nor am I trying to water down your experiences - but remember making a blanket statement for 1.2 Billion people demands a lot of explanation!
There is difference working on the ground to make a transformation and witness it from a holistic sense than having a 5 feet level view. Hope you don't take anything personally... but maybe just grasp the gist of my experiences/thoughts.

You are just from western part of India don't speak as though you are from western part of the world. I guess you don't watch the news where they speak about the various atrocities done on the backward class by the forward class. I feel sorry for your ignorance that is all I can do. When possible go to any NGO social service people and ask about caste system and they will give you ample stories which might shatter your belief. What I agreed with the fellow IV member was on a different issue and I acknowledge the fact that things are wrong in each part of the world and every country has its own share of issues. Just like nobody is perfect not every place is perfect. But not acknowledging the fact that something is so widely prevalent in India just shows how far as an individual you are away from reality.
